Anand Giridharadas, Leigh Haber Launch Book Club
Anand Giridharadas and Leigh Haber have teamed up to launch the Ink Book Club, which will focus on themes of democracy across fiction and nonfiction.
Journalist, writer, and political analyst Giridharadas has authored Winners Take All, The Persuaders, and since 2020 has helmed the newsletter The Ink, which has more than 100,000 subscribers. Haber is the former director of Oprah’s Book Club, which she ran for 10 years alongside books coverage for O, the Oprah Magazine. She previously held roles at Chronicle Books, Rodale, and Hyperion Press.
The Ink Book Club will make monthly book selections, starting with Abundance by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson. Discussion guides, with weekly prompts and questions from Haber, will be shared through Giridharadas's Ink newsletter, which includes a comment section, chat platform, and live discussions. On May 21, Klein and Thompson will host a live video chat, and the first 100 members to sign up for the event will receive a free copy of the book courtesy of Avid Reader.
“I’m thrilled to bring my learnings from ten years directing Oprah’s Book Club and decades editing and supporting writers to Anand’s vibrant community,” said Haber in a statement. “Oprah has always called authors her rock stars. In this crucial moment, we need their inspiration, insights, and calls to action more than ever.”
