Andy Schmidt Joins BOOM! Studios as Editor-in-Chief
BOOM! Studios has named Andy Schmidt as its editor-in-chief, marking an expansion of the comic and graphic novel publisher’s editorial team.
Previously, Schmidt served as the director of intellectual property development and brand design at Hasbro for two years. Throughout his career, he has also worked at Marvel and IDW Publishing, where he managed such projects as The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Trek, and G.I. Joe, among others. In his new role, Schmidt will lead BOOM!’s editorial team, help formulate and execute an overall publishing strategy, and provide guidance and a vision for each of BOOM!’s four imprints. He will report directly to deputy publisher Bryce Carlson.
In addition to Schmidt, BOOM! has hired Lily Kessinger as editor and Olivia Dontsov as managing editor, both of whom will serve as “key members” of the publisher’s editorial team, according to a press release. Prior to BOOM!, Kessinger worked at Clarion Books, a division of HarperCollins, while Dontsov was at Astra Publishing House.
